Answers to some questions about joining a Rising Song Circle...
The big idea here is for you to build (or continue to build) an enthusiastic singing community at your shul or organization, using your expert leadership. Your people can subscribe individually to Joey’s extensive collection of master class videos, and you will be the fearless leader, helping them every step of the way, both individually and as a group.
We are calling these communities Rising Song Circles. What you do with your circle is only limited by your own imagination and leadership. The CA Rising Song Facilitator Training is designed to help get you off to a strong start -- or, if you’re already experienced leading this kind of group, to take you to the next level.
Music is now more important than ever. Song reminds us of our essential humanity and it will have the power to rekindle communal bonds after so many months spent social distancing.
Trained facilitators can engage their communities using Joey’s master classes, which give cantors inspiring, well-crafted material to explore. The CA and RSI want to “train the trainers” so that cantors can gather local groups of singers and song-lovers in their communities and teach them to sing nigunim and learn nusach using Joey’s resources as a launching pad.
Hazzanim Joanna Dulkin and Mike Weis will organize all get-togethers and/or virtual gatherings using Joey’s master class videos as a resource and curriculum to inspire the group, and Joey will lead a series of private, live workshops for our Rising Song Facilitator Training.
A subscription to Joey's Music. Prayer. Artistry. master classes costs $18 per month and grants a person access to all the videos (more than 500!) on this site.
NOTE: Folks who are already subscribed to Joey’s Master Classes should reach out to [email protected] so Joey's team can add you to the CA's Rising Song Facilitator Training for no extra cost.
Dates are TBD.
The CA and RSI are partnering to offer a facilitator training to learn from Joey how to run Rising Song Circles in your community.
Rising Song Circles are opportunities to study (Jewish) song in depth through extensive master class videos paired with a local master facilitator (i.e. cantor).

Though it’s difficult and unadvisable to sing close together and make really beautiful music in person during the ongoing pandemic, we view this situation as a great opportunity to study and enjoy Jewish music online, to learn nigunim and sing them in our living rooms, and to study the nusach of Jewish prayer chant so that our spiritual lives do not become stagnant.
The material on this site gives us the tools to create powerful moments of prayer at home with our families or even to lead intimate backyard gatherings with our closest friends.
We believe that taking advantage of this unprecedented time to study (Jewish) music will make it all the more exciting and meaningful when we’re able to gather together in song again.
Part of the mission of Hadar’s Rising Song Institute is to inspire musical growth in the Jewish community worldwide. As founder and co-director of RSI, Joey wants to see that happen. So, in partnership with him, we’re investing our time and energy to make it happen. When we see potential and musical-spiritual organizing power in a community, we want to support it, and that’s the point of this resource.
