Prepare for the High Holidays by starting a Meshorerim Collective—a small group of leaders and learners who come together in person to support each other in musical prayer.

Get a grant to uplift your communal prayer and song on Rosh Hashanah!

Apply Here by June 30

Rooted in the role of the meshorerim—those who traditionally stood around the ba’al tefillah (prayer leader) or cantor to uplift the sound and spirit of communal prayer—these groups become communities of practice: spaces to sing, reflect, give feedback, and grow together.

Each Meshorerim Collective is a Hadar Community Group, part of a national initiative where 8 or more people meet at least 8 times in person to build grassroots Jewish life through meaningful connection and shared experience.

Collectives receive up to $1,000 in funding as well as curated resources, training, and access to Joey Weisenberg’s learning library to support your journey.

Whether you're leading davening or offering your presence, harmony, and support, a Meshorerim Collective brings new energy to communal prayer. You’ll join a national network of preparing for the High Holidays with intention, skill, and heart.

Apply to Start Your Meshorerim Collective!

  • Build a Community of Practice: Gather 8+ people in your community to meet 8+ times between July and Yom Kippur to rehearse tefillot, offer feedback, and support each other’s growth as leaders and daveners. While most groups meet before the High Holidays, yours can continue practicing together through or after Yom Kippur to reach the 8+ sessions required.
  • Deepen Relationships: Strengthen bonds through consistent, joyful, and collaborative musical prayer rooted in trust and shared purpose.
  • Elevate the High Holiday Soundscape:  Enter the Days of Awe with a group that uplifts the spirit of communal prayer—so prayer leaders are never singing alone, supporters help shape the sound, and everyone can find their voice in tefillah.
  • Receive Training and Support: Participate in live facilitator training, and receive a $500 leader stipend and $500 of program funding to help your group thrive.
  • High Holiday Nusach Videos: Get 3 months of free group access to Joey Weisenberg’s learning library including High Holiday nusach videos, the “10 Keys to Building Singing Communities,” and 1,000+ recordings of Jewish spiritual song.
  • Join Live Q&A Sessions: Leading up to the holidays, gather on Zoom to ask Joey Weisenberg questions and to explore the material in virtual community.

Save these important dates!

  • June 30 - Application Due Date
  • July 7 - Acceptance Notification
  • July 10 - Facilitator Training on Zoom

Attend these (optional but recommended) Q&A Sessions with Joey Weisenberg on Zoom throughout the summer:

  • July 10 (Thur), 8:00pm–8:45 PM ET
  • August 7 (Thur), 8:00–9:00 PM ET
  • September 11 (Thur), 8:00–9:00 PM ET

We encourage groups to complete most or all of their 8 local in-person sessions by Yom Kippur, but your Collective can continue afterward if needed to reach the full 8+ meetings.

At this time, all Meshorerim Collectives are expected to meet in person.

Currently, Meshorerim Collectives outside the US and Canada are not eligible for funding. We encourage those who want to start groups abroad to apply, and receive full access to facilitator training, Hadar resources, and ongoing support.

The online course includes videos on the following subjects:

  1. Nusach Roadmap
  2. Pesukei D'Zimrah for Rosh HaShanah
  3. Shacharit for Rosh HaShanah

Through learning the nusach in these videos—and, crucially, by trying them in real life!—you can become a High Holiday prayer leader in your community or in the privacy of your home.

You will learn all of the major liturgy for Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur, and be able to lead any of these services at a synagogue or prayer gathering of any size. Through Joey's teachings in this series, you will develop the aesthetic and spiritual sensitivity to both lead and step out of the way, empowering diverse groups of people to lift and transform their prayers into powerful, collective song.
